Newark's Christmas light switch-on 2022

Newark's Christmas light switch-on 2022   28 NOVEMBER 2022 American country band 'The Highway Junkies' welcomed hundreds of people at Newark Marketplace for the Christmas light switch-on and firework display. Hosted by Newark Town Council, the annual event saw an array of entertainment, including artisan produce, live music, and carnival rides. This was the first time I had attended this event, and with the backdrop of the historic marketplace and Town Hall, there was a lively atmosphere. The tight cobbled streets and alleyways were filled with people, although it was busy everyone looked happy and in the festive spirit. As well as the market stalls and festive lights, there was live music from local and guest performers. Unlike their usual country songs, 'The Highway Junkies' performed country-twists of classic Christmas songs, including a fresh take on George Michael's "Last Christmas". As this was unlike the traditional carols, like those performed ...

Google Refunds Customers

Google Refunds Customers  13 NOVEMBER 2022 Google has started to refund customers following the announced closure of their video game streaming service Google Stadia. In September 2022, Google announced that Stadia will shutdown on January 18th 2023, after a three-year lifespan. An estimated 2 million users, including myself, have started to recieve refunds for hardware, including the Stadia controller, and software purchased through Google's online store. When Google announced Stadia's closure, it was unclear how much their venture into cloud-gaming cost the tech giant. But an estimated 2 million users, and each Stadia controller costing around £60 each, before factoring in the actual cost of any games, you can assume it cost Google a small fortune. My experience of Google Stadia, although cut short, has been a good one. I love the futuristic and modern feel of the controller, and the screw-less design makes it f...

Worcestershire Band Play Home Performance With New Album

Worcestershire band play home performance with new album  12  November 2022 Last night (11/11/22), Emma Howett and her band performed at The Marr's Bar, Worcester, with her latest album 'Super Awkward'. The band were full of energy, which rubbed off onto the crowd, consisting of long-time fans, and first-time listeners. The atmosphere was good, with many people having drinks and jamming to the music. Like previous gigs I have attended at the small Worcester venue, I sat at the back, so I could see both the crowd and the stage and take in the atmosphere of anticipation. Emma's voice reminded me of Blondie's Debbie Harry and that early 1980's sound. The band consists of vocals, bass guitar, and keytar (very 80's!). I asked Emma where she gets her inspiration from, and she said "I love Blondie, and female acts and artists. Classic inspiration for me is people like Jodie Mitchell, and really early Elvis Costello." The audience interaction was among ...
