Discord discontinues Clyde Bot
18 NOVEMBER 2023
Discord has announced that it plans to pull its AI chat-bot Clyde.
The social media platform announced that it's chat-bot Clyde will be deactivated at the end of the month (November, 2023).
In a statement released yesterday by Discord, they said,
"Clyde will be deactivated at the end of the month. By December 1st, 2023, users will no longer be able to invoke Clyde in DMs, or server chats. Thank you for your support & feedback - we are constantly working on bringing you new features and experiences!"
The news comes following Discord's rapid changes to the social media platform and the way it generates income.
Clyde, was launched back in May 2021 as a way for Discord users to get answers without the need of a Discord Moderator or human intervention. Clyde was initially described by Discord as "an experimental feature".
Powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT, Clyde was capable of playing games, responding to messages and interacting with server members.
Before the recent AI boom seen throughout 2022 and this year, Discord has been using bots and semi-automated services since its advent in 2015.
Although Discord have not released their reasoning for pulling the bot, after only 3 years, it comes in light as users on Reddit have revealed screenshots of the bot spouting vile language to underage users.
As Clyde shutdown, many have turned to AI Discord bots like, Mee6 and Arcane. However many developers create and code their own.
Although the bot was never fully distributed across the platform, the bot was one of a few official bots created by Discord.
