Scala Theatre planning application submitted

Planning applications for Worcester's updated Scala Theatre have been submitted, setting out "an ambitious vision".
Worcester City Council have submitted new plans to revive the historic Scala Theatre and former Corn Exchange.
The project's planning application, funded by £17.9 million of the Future High Street's Fund, is now listed online by Worcester City Council.
The online planning application reveals Worcester City Council plan to end consultation for the Scala Theatre on 7th February 2024.
According to the City Council, their plan to regenerate the former Scala Theatre and Corn Exchange buildings, is "an ambitious vision for a new performance and creativity hub in the hearts of the city."
"We have worked with local arts organisations to create a new hub for film screenings, live performances, dance, rehearsals and much more."
On October 16th last year, Worcester City Council held an independent meeting with Worcester's arts and creative community.
The independent consultation carried out concluded that 86% of people said they would like to see the Scala and the Corn Exchange renovated into an arts centre.
Bury Associates were commissioned to carry out a survey of the theatre structure. The Scala Theatre is a Graded II listed building.
