Discord Introduces New Safety Tools
21 FEBRUARY 2024
Social media platform Discord will introduced new safety features to protect vulnerable users.
This news comes as Discord CEO Jason Citron, along with CEOs of TikTok, Meta, and X are in the US Supreme Court for tighter social media regulations to protect users.
According to Discord only 15% of their staff are "focused on safety". Back in October 2023, Discord introduced a new Warning System, which informs Users if they have broken rules.
Allegedly, Discord's latest safety tool feature is an automatic pop-up if a conversation message appears to be causing the User any harm.
Screen-shots of this safety feature have been revealed in the server 'Discord Previews', with Users praising Discord's efforts to improve child-safety.
Although the new safety tools appear to help, critiques of the platform, such as YouTube's 'No Text To Speech', highlight there are potential privacy concerns.
In his latest video, the YouTuber claims "Discord is using machine learning to figure out if your conversations are unsafe.
"Is Discord feeding our messages into AI to figure out and help train the AI, I don't know?"
Discord are still yet to publicly announce the new pop-up message feature.
As Discord prepares to introduce these changes, Users can expect a more-transparent and accountable platform.
According to their website, Discord currently has over 150 million active monthly users, and 19 million active servers per week.
