Clash of Discord Clans?
01 MARCH 2024
Allegedly Discord plans to create new 'servers' called Clans specifically aimed at gamers.
In a move that comes as a surprise, rumours have emerged that the social media platform Discord is creating 'Clans', aimed at fostering stronger connections among gamers.
According to the server Discord Experiments Hub, the platform is testing a new 'Alpha' feature called 'Clans', in a move to connect gamers better.
While the details of this feature are subject to change, as it progresses from 'Alpha' to final release, the initial rumours hint at several distinguishing characteristics that set 'Clans' apart from traditional Discord Servers.
One notable difference is the purported limit of 200 users per Clan, a departure from the potentially larger membership of standard Discord Servers.
While this limitation may foster a sense of intimacy within gaming communities, it could pose challenges for larger servers considering the transition to Clan status.
Unlike regular Discord Servers, 'Clans' will allegedly feature an application form, where the Owner can regulate who can join the Clan.
Discord critique and YouTuber, 'No Text To Speech', highlights that the potential feature may have safety concerns as vulnerable users may be exploited to share sensitive data to enter a Clan.
As the Clans feature is in 'Alpha' development, Discord have time to implement their new safety tools.
Similar to their regular server counterpart, Clans will also allow users to see what games other members are playing.
As anticipation builds to see what Clans will officially look like, gamers are eagerly awaiting for the social media platform to make an official announcement.
